Hey, sports fans! Ready to grab some popcorn, a hot dog and a cold beverage and cheer on your favorite local team? Spring and early summer are the perfect time to do so since two of Sacramento’s semi-professional and professional teams are starting up or already in full swing.
Sacramento River Cats (Triple-A baseball)
Is there anything better than kicking back on a warm evening and watching a baseball game, maybe catching a foul ball or seeing a pitcher’s duel? Take the family or go with your friends to the ballpark for a River Cats game. The Minor League Baseball team, whose season starts in early April, is the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants and plays at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.
You’ll have many food and beverage options, including Coop & Kennel Pub, Cadillac Diner, Oso’s Mexican Cantina, Golden Spike Chophouse and the Sweet Spot. Sutter Health Park also features local microbrews and imported and domestic beers as well as soda, water, fresh-squeezed lemonade and other refreshments.
Sacramento Republic FC (USL soccer)
A recent newcomer to the Sacramento sports scene, Sacramento Republic FC is an American professional soccer team that plays in the Western Conference of the USL Championship and has gained a tremendous, passionate following. In season through October, they play at Heart Health Park, located on the grounds of Cal Expo.
Basketball season may be coming to a close, but it’s worth noting that the Kings compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the Western Conference Pacific Division and have been in Sacramento since 1985. The team plays its home games at the Golden 1 Center, and each game is packed with excitement, thrills and lots of scoring. The 2022–2023 season will start in October, so there’s something to look forward to come fall!
